Biogarantie
Biogarantie is a private Belgian label dedicated to organic farming and recognised since the 1980s. It certifies that food products are sourced from controlled organic farming, in accordance with European organic regulations, while adding specific criteria in terms of ecological, social and economic sustainability.
Naturland Fair
Naturland Fair, launched in 2010, is a label that complements the Naturland organic label, combining high standards of organic farming with strict criteria for fair trade and social responsibility, applicable to both southern and northern countries. The label therefore combines organic certification and fair trade.
Naturland
Naturland, along with Demeter and Bioland, is one of the leading certifiers of organic products in Germany. The label was created in 1982 with the aim of promoting organic farming worldwide. With more than 65,000 certified producers in 58 countries, Naturland is one of the largest organic farming associations in the world. The label focuses on high ecological standards for food cultivation and processing and takes social aspects into account. The label guarantees 100% organic farming with requirements that exceed European regulations, mandatory compliance with strict social and environmental criteria, the option of fair trade certification (Naturland Fair) and a wide range of products, from field to processing, including aquaculture, sustainable fishing, textiles and cosmetics.
Bioland
Bioland is the leading private organic farming label in Germany and South Tyrol, established in 1978. It is managed by the Bioland association, which brings together more than 8,700 producers (farmers, horticulturists, beekeepers, winegrowers) and more than 1,400 processing and distribution partners. Bioland’s main objective is to promote and develop organic farming.
BIO nach EG-Öko-Verordnung
The Bio-Siegel is the German federal organic label introduced in 2001 by the German Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food (BMEL) to identify products from organic farming. The Bio-Siegel does not replace the European organic label, but it can be used as a supplement for the German market. It guarantees compliance with European organic standards and has strong visual recognition on the German market, as well as on some products sold in Luxembourg.
VEREENEGUNG FIR BIOLANDWIRTSCHAFTLÉTZEBUERG ASBL
Bio-LËTZEBUERG distinguishes organic products exclusively manufactured within the Biovereenegung association. It is a private Luxembourg label created and managed by Bio-Vereenegung Lëtzebuerg. It was officially introduced in 2015 as a marketing brand to distinguish organic products from Luxembourg members. The Bio-Lëtzebuerg – Vereenegung fir Bio-Landwirtschaft Lëtzebuerg a.s.b.l. association itself was founded on 27 February 2012 following the merger of the two founding associations ‘bio-LABEL’ and ‘Demeter Bond Lëtzebuerg’. It distinguishes products from local organic farming, produced and processed according to specifications that are stricter than European regulations. The label guarantees that the product comes from farms and holdings located in Luxembourg, thus promoting short supply chains and the local economy. The label’s requirements often exceed European organic regulations: a total ban on GMOs, stricter limits on inputs, greater respect for biodiversity, enhanced animal welfare and preservation of natural resources.
AB Agriculture Biologique
The AB (Agriculture Biologique) label is a French quality label created in 1985, owned by the French Ministry of Agriculture and Food. It identifies products from organic farming and guarantees compliance with natural production methods without synthetic chemicals or GMOs. Since 2009, the AB label criteria have been aligned with those of the European organic label (Euroleaf logo), which is now mandatory for all pre-packaged organic products in the European Union. The AB label may still appear alongside the European logo, but it is no longer mandatory and its requirements are now equivalent to those of the European label.
Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg
The Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg label is the Luxembourg version of the international Fairtrade label, guaranteeing that certified products comply with the fair trade standards defined by Fairtrade International. It has been in existence since 1992, when the association was founded under the name TransFair-Minka asbl. Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg promotes fair trade among consumers, businesses and local authorities in Luxembourg, in particular through the ‘Fairtrade Gemeng’ programme, which encourages local authorities to include Fairtrade products in their purchases and to raise awareness among the population.
Demeter
The Demeter label is an international certification of German origin that guarantees that food, cosmetics and textiles come from biodynamic agriculture, a form of organic farming that goes beyond the requirements of conventional organic farming. All Demeter products must first be certified organic according to European regulations; Demeter certification adds to this basis by imposing additional requirements. The Demeter specifications are stricter, particularly through the integration of biodynamics, holistic farm management and the exclusion of certain processes and additives that are tolerated in organic farming. Created in 1932, it is now present in more than 50 countries, including Luxembourg. It is recognised worldwide as the strictest standard in organic farming.
