The V-Label is an international label created in 1996 by the European Vegetarian Union to clearly identify vegetarian and vegan products. It takes the form of an easily recognisable logo and comes in two distinct versions: ‘vegetarian’ and ‘vegan’. This label guarantees that certified products contain no meat, fish, ingredients derived from slaughtered animals, gelatine or animal fats, and also excludes eggs from caged hens. For the vegan version, no ingredients of animal origin are tolerated, including milk, eggs or honey. The certification also covers processing aids used during manufacture, such as fining agents for wines. Today, the V-Label is the best known and most widely used label worldwide for vegetarian and vegan products, with more than 40,000 certified products in many countries.
